Our Story
Born in the Mist of Coonoor
A family, a passion, and the beautiful Blue Mountains
How It All Began
A Chocolate Dream at 6,000 Feet
The story of Coonoor Chocolate Factory begins not in a factory, but in a small kitchen in the hills. Our founder, passionate about the rich flavours the Nilgiri region had to offer, began experimenting with locally sourced cocoa and spices. What started as weekend batches shared with neighbours quickly became something the whole town was talking about.
Coonoor has always been a hill-station of quiet beauty — less crowded than Ooty, more intimate, with cool mists rolling in from the valley every evening. It felt like the perfect place to craft something slow, something handmade, something genuine.
Rooted in the Nilgiris
Every Ingredient Tells a Story
We are deeply connected to the land around us. Our coffee beans come from small estate farms in and around Coonoor. Our tea is sourced directly from orthodox garden owners in the Nilgiris who still follow traditional hand-rolling methods. The honey is collected from wildflower meadows above 5,500 ft by local beekeepers we've worked with for years.
Even our spices — pepper, cardamom, cinnamon — come from hill farmers who have been growing them for generations. When you buy from us, you're supporting not just our shop, but an entire ecosystem of Nilgiri farmers and craftspeople.
Today
A Beloved Stop on Every Coonoor Journey
Today, Coonoor Chocolate Factory is one of the most loved spots for visitors to Coonoor and Ooty. Travellers come for the chocolates and leave with bags full of coffee, tea, honey, wine, and spices. Many have become regulars — ordering online, sending gifts to family across India, and always making sure to visit us when they're back in the hills.
We are a small team, still family-run, still making everything in small batches. That will never change.
